As the crisp air rolls in an the leaves begin to turn, fall invites us to slow down and sip something warm, and enjoy life's simple beauty. But we forget that whatever season older adults have a higher risk of falls- especially at home, were most accidents happen. Here are some fee thoughtful steps that we can take and make for the safety of our out home.

  1. Clear the Pathways

Clutter loves to gather in hallways and around favorite chair. Loose shoes, stacked magazine, or even a stray pet toy can become a trip hazard. Take a few minutes to talk through your home and make sure each path is wide and clear. Think of it a making room for peace and mind.

  1. Light the Way

as days get shorter, lighting becomes eve more important. Add brighter bults in areas like stairs, hallways and entryways. A small night light in the bathroom or along the path to the kitchen can make all the difference during late- night trips.

  1. Secure Rugs and Cords

Rugs ad warmth- but unsecured once can slip. use non-skid pads or double sided rug tape to keep them firmly in place. tuck away any cords or wires that cross the walking areas.

  1. Choose Support, not Strain

Install grab bars in bathroom near the toilet and in the shower. handrails on both sides of the stairs can also offer extra confidence. if balance feels uncertain, use a sturdy cane or walker, its not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of wisdom.

  1. Dress for Stability

Comfort is key. but so is support. Choose shoes with non- slip soles and avoid walking in socks on smooth floors. A cozy fair of house shoes with good grip keeps you both warm and grounded,

  1. Keep Moving

Balance improves when you stay active. Gentle exercise like stretching. walking or chair yoga can strengthen legs and core muscle- your natural defense against falls.

Keep a phone or alert device close by in case you need help. let family or neighbors know to check-in in occasionally, especially if you live alone.
