Hello, My Name Is… Not That

We all have names we’ve been given in life. Not the ones on our birth certificates, but the ones life’s storms, other people’s opinions, and our own inner critic have whispered into our ears. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’ve been answering to them.

Names like:

  • Failure

  • Unworthy

  • Too Broken to Heal

  • Unlovable

  • Not Enough

  • Too Much

  • Shame

  • Mistake

  • Weak

  • Always the Victim

  • Invisible

  • Burden

  • Hopeless

  • Never Going to Change

And yet… none of these are who you really are.

Why They’re Lies

These labels feel real because we’ve lived through moments that seem to prove them true. Maybe you’ve been abandoned, betrayed, abused, overlooked, or told “you’ll never amount to anything.” But here’s the truth:

  • Your failures are events, not your identity.

  • Feeling broken does not mean you’re beyond repair.

  • Someone’s inability to love you does not make you unlovable.

  • Your past behavior is not your permanent destiny.

Every one of those “names” was written in pain, not in truth. And you have the power to cross them out.

Why the Story Has to Change

The story you tell yourself becomes the story you live. If you keep saying, “I am unworthy,” you will see the world through the lens of unworthiness. You’ll accept crumbs instead of abundance, and you’ll believe people who treat you poorly are just “telling it like it is.”

But if you rewrite your name—Chosen, Capable, Enough, Resilient, Loved—your choices will start to match that truth. You’ll stand taller. You’ll leave the table where love is not being served. You’ll try again when it’s hard.

Changing the story doesn’t erase the past—it changes your future.

The Hard Truth

Life is hard either way.

  • It’s hard to live feeling unworthy.

  • It’s hard to fight for your worth.

  • It’s hard to scrape by believing you’re powerless.

  • It’s hard to learn, grow, and do the work to change your life.

But you get to choose your hard. One hard keeps you stuck. The other hard sets you free.

So… hello, your name is not Failure. Hello, your name is not Shame. Hello, your name is Beloved Child of God. Overcomer. Brave Soul. Author of a new story.

And it’s time the world learned to call you by your real name.
